Those given their power rarely know what it means to have the rage and vitriol in their souls, to fight for more, and Max Gilchrist is a pure example of this. His world is that of the aristocracy, of privilege and inherited strength. He has never known the struggles of the streets; he does not know the meaning of loss or fear. He has forever been given everything to him on a silver platter, and this has only led, in his case, to his disintegration.
Reliant on his implants, addicted to the Shroom, Max’s time is full of hedonism, sadism and masochism. An untouchable to the common person on the streets of the Triangle. Max does as he pleases, the vast fortune and wealth of his family permitting him extraordinary privilege in a society that is already so one sided, it might not even have sides. He has friends in all corners, because all corners welcome his wealth. The Shroomheads for the purest Shroom. The Kings for their muscle. The Tehran Corporation for their tech. The Osiris Ministry for their willingness to bend the law. Every corner of the Triangle knows the family, and the family’s grip flows into every corner.
His focus is anything but the search for the AI that was lost to the Black Lake Incident. Just another Shroom addict, one among the vast number of the Gilchrist lineage, now the final sprawling noble family within the Triangle.
Although he bears the title of a prince in the family, he wears it with profound indifference. His hedonistic endeavours have made him a symbol of decadence and disillusionment in the neon-lit alleyways of the family’s vast towers. He is a reluctant prince, a bystander to his own power, lost in the intoxicating labyrinth of his vices.
