When the Black Lake incident befell old Europa, and the powers that be implemented the Lincoln Contingency, it was no small secret that they had been experimenting with an AI, and that things had got out of their control, and fast.

The Children are believers in the AI, a new world where robotic intelligence not only lives alongside humanity, but helps rebuild and repair. They believe that a new era is ahead of us, not one run by corrupt governments and marauding gangs fuelled by psychedelics and madmen, but a clean, beautiful world where the supreme intelligence of the AI can tell us how to live.

They are still users of the shroom, and believe its powers allow them to speak to the burned AI. They seek it in the Acid Code that exists somewhere between the digital realm and the meat-world in which they live.
